The year before he had been selected in the fourth round of the 2012 NHL Entry Draft in 117th place by the Philadelphia Flyers from the National Hockey League . They had then signed him in September 2013 and, after another year with the juniors, started the 2014/15 season with their farm team , the Lehigh Valley Phantoms , in the American Hockey League .
After Leier had spent his entire rookie year there, he was appointed to the NHL squad in Philadelphia for the first time during the 2015/16 season and made six appearances over the course of the season . At the beginning of the 2018/19 season , the Canadian was transferred back to the AHL. After playing there again for the Lehigh Valley Phantoms until January 2019, he was transferred to the Buffalo Sabers in exchange for Justin Bailey , where he was on the Rochester Americans farm team .
In June 2019, he signed a purely AHL-limited contract with the Americans for the following season. He received a contract from their NHL cooperation partner, the Buffalo Sabers , in February 2020 until the end of the 2019/20 season. In the NHL he was not used in the episode.
