Taylor Leier (born February 15, 1994 in Saskatoon , Saskatchewan ) is a Canadian ice hockey player who has been under contract with the Buffalo Sabers in the National Hockey League since February 2020 and with their farm team, the Rochester Americans from American Hockey, since January 2019 League , playing in the position of the left winger .

Career

Leier spent his youth in his hometown, where he played for local teams until the summer of 2011. For the 2011/12 season he moved to the Western Hockey League . There he ran for the following three years for the Portland Winterhawks , with which he won the Ed Chynoweth Cup in 2013. The year before he had been selected in the fourth round of the 2012 NHL Entry Draft in 117th place by the Philadelphia Flyers from the National Hockey League . They had then signed him in September 2013 and, after another year with the juniors, started the 2014/15 season with their farm team , the Lehigh Valley Phantoms , in the American Hockey League .

After Leier had spent his entire rookie year there, he was appointed to the NHL squad in Philadelphia for the first time during the 2015/16 season and made six appearances over the course of the season . Mainly he continued to play for Lehigh Valley in the AHL. In the following year, the striker commuted between the NHL and AHL squads before making the permanent jump into the NHL squad of the Philadelphia Flyers for the 2017/18 season . There he was mostly the 13th striker in the squad and often found himself in the stands, so that he only played 39 games. At the beginning of the 2018/19 season , the Canadian was transferred back to the AHL. After playing there again for the Lehigh Valley Phantoms until January 2019, he was transferred to the Buffalo Sabers in exchange for Justin Bailey , where he was on the Rochester Americans farm team .

In June 2019, he signed a purely AHL-limited contract with the Americans for the following season. He received a contract from their NHL cooperation partner, the Buffalo Sabers , in February 2020 until the end of the 2019/20 season. In the NHL he was not used in the episode.

International

Leier represented his home country at the U20 World Junior Championship in 2014 in Malmö, Sweden . He remained pointless in seven tournament games and finished fourth with the Canadians.
