Henrik Samuelsson (born February 7, 1994 in Pittsburgh , Pennsylvania ) is an American ice hockey player of Swedish origin who has been under contract with the Rockford IceHogs of the American Hockey League since February 2018 and plays for them in the position of right winger .
Career
Samuelsson was born during his father Ulf Samuelsson's engagement with the Pittsburgh Penguins from the National Hockey League in Pittsburgh and grew up in the United States . There he played in the 2010/11 season initially for the US National Team Development Program of the US Ice Hockey Association USA Hockey in the United States Hockey League . Since his father took the position of head coach at MODO Hockey Örnsköldsvik from the Swedish Elitserien at the beginning of the 2011/12 season , the club also signed the then 17-year-old striker, who was responsible for both the U18 and U20 juniors during the season first men's team came up. However, he returned to North America in January 2012.
The attacker joined the Edmonton Oil Kings from the Western Hockey League , with whom he won the Ed Chynoweth Cup at the end of the season and qualified as a champion of the WHL for the prestigious Memorial Cup . There Samuelsson managed to be chosen as the best scorer of his team in the all-star team of the competition. In the summer he was finally by the Phoenix Coyotes in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft selected in the first round to 27th place. The winger remained in Edmonton for two more years, which ended at the end of the 2013/14 season with another championship win. The season was crowned by winning the Memorial Cup, reelection to the all-star team of the competition and receiving the Ed Chynoweth Trophy as top scorer.
In the summer of 2014 Samuelsson finally moved to the now in Arizona Coyotes renamed franchise , which his signed already in March 2013 NHL entry contract entered with three-year term in power. Mainly he ran in the 2014/15 season for the Coyotes farm team Portland Pirates from the American Hockey League . In the course of the season he also celebrated his NHL debut and was used in three matches. He completed the 2015/16 season completely with the Springfield Falcons in the AHL, which were in cooperation with Arizona for this season. Due to an injury in the pre-season, he had initially missed the jump to the NHL regular squad and another injury in the course of the season limited him to only 43 appearances in the AHL. Before the start of the 2016/17 season , he was handed over by the Coyotes to the Tucson Roadrunners farm team, which had been changed again .
In February 2017, the Coyotes gave it to the Edmonton Oilers and received Mitchell Moroz in return . There the attacker fulfilled his contract until the end of the season in the farm team, the Bakersfield Condors , in the American Hockey League . In September 2017, the free agent joined the Idaho Steelheads from the ECHL , but made the jump back to the American Hockey League in February 2018 when he signed a contract with the Rockford IceHogs .
International
Samuelsson was part of the US team at the World U-17 Hockey Challenge 2011 and U18 Junior World Championship 2011 . At the World U-17 Hockey Challenge, the Americans won the silver medal and Samuelsson was the team's most successful scorer with ten points . The US boys won the world championship at the U18 Junior World Championship. He himself contributed an assist in six games .

family
Samuelsson is the son of the former Swedish national player and multiple Stanley Cup winner Ulf Samuelsson , who played 1212 games in the National Hockey League . His three siblings are all involved in ice hockey. His older brother Philip Samuelsson (* 1991) was selected in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft and won the gold medal at the U18 Junior World Championship that same year . In the 2013/14 season he made his debut in the National Hockey League for the Pittsburgh Penguins . The younger brother Adam (* 2000) is also considered a promising talent. His sister Victoria Samuelsson (* 1996) has been the Swedish national player since 2013 .
