Alexander "Alex" Roach (born April 19, 1993 in Schongau ) is a Canadian - German ice hockey player in the defensive position who has been under contract with the Löwen Frankfurt since 2019 in the DEL2 .

Career

Roach was born in Schongau in Upper Bavaria , his mother is German, his father a former Canadian ice hockey professional who played in the German league in the 1990s at EC Peiting .

He grew up in Canada and joined the Calgary Hitmen from the Western Hockey League (WHL) in 2010 . In the summer of 2011, Roach was invited to trial training by the Los Angeles Kings from the National Hockey League (NHL) and received a three-year contract from the Kings in September of the same year. First he continued to play for Calgary, from 2014 to the end of the 2014/15 season then for Ontario Reign in the ECHL . In the 2015/16 season he was on the ice for another Kings farm team , the Manchester Monarchs , in the ECHL, where he made a name for himself with good performances: Roach was the best assist provider among Manchester's defenders. In a total of 69 ECHL appearances that season, he scored six goals and made 25 assists.

In preparation for the 2016/17 season, Roach first trained with the Boston Bruins , then from October with the Providence Bruins from the American Hockey League (AHL), where he received a one-year contract. In early November 2016, Roach was sent to the Atlanta Gladiators , for whom he completed twelve games in the ECHL.

In December 2016 Roach was signed by Eisbären Berlin from the German Ice Hockey League (DEL). In June 2017 he switched to the Grizzlys Wolfsburg within the DEL . In March 2018 he left Wolfsburg for Northern Hesse and joined the Kassel Huskies in the DEL2 by the end of the month .

During the summer break of 2018, Roach was signed by the DEL2 climber Deggendorfer SC  . Shortly before the start of the 2019/20 season, he moved to the Löwen Frankfurt (also DEL2).
