Gregory "Greg" Pateryn (born June 20, 1990 in Sterling Heights , Michigan ) is an American ice hockey player on the position of defender . He has been with the Minnesota Wild in the National Hockey League since July 2018 .
Career
Greg Pateryn began his career on the high school school team before joining the Ohio Blue Jackets in the United States Hockey League . After the end of the season he was selected in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft in the fifth round at a total of 128th position by the Toronto Maple Leafs . This transferred his player rights, however, in the same year together with a second-round suffrage to the Canadiens de Montréal , who in return gave Michail Hrabouski to Toronto.
Then Pateryn moved to the University of Michigan , where he played for the local ice hockey team in the Central Collegiate Hockey Association , a division of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). In the 2010/11 season he reached with the team after winning the regular season, the entry into the final series of the NCAA. He developed into one of the most important defensive defenders on his team.
After graduating from college, Pateryn signed a three-year entry-level contract with the Canadiens de Montréal in March 2012 . In the 2012/13 season he then played for the then Canadiens farm team, the Hamilton Bulldogs , in the American Hockey League before making his NHL debut against the Tampa Bay Lightning towards the end of the regular season . In the following season he was appointed assistant captain of the Bulldogs and was able to almost triple his point yield from the previous season with 34 points from 68 games. His 15 goals were also the second most of all defenders in the league.
In March 2015, Pateryn was able to establish himself permanently in the Canadiens' NHL squad for the first time and distinguished himself there particularly through his physical play. In the play-offs, he finally scored his first scorer point in the NHL when he prepared a goal by Tom Gilbert in the game against the Ottawa Senators .
After more than five years in the organization of the Canadiens, Pateryn was handed over to the Dallas Stars in February 2017, including a four-round vote for the 2017 NHL Entry Draft . In return, Jordie Benn moved to Montréal.
In July 2018, Pateryn signed a three-year contract with the Minnesota Wild .
