Robert Allen Suter (born May 16, 1957 in Madison , Wisconsin , † September 9, 2014 ) was an American ice hockey player and coach . At the 1980 Winter Olympics , he won the gold medal as a member of the US national team.
Career
Bob Suter began his career as a hockey player at the University of Wisconsin , which he attended from 1977 to 1979, while he also played for their ice hockey team in the National Collegiate Athletic Association . In 1979 he was elected to the second All-Star Team of the Western Collegiate Hockey Association . The 1978/79 season he ended with the Tulsa Oilers from the Central Hockey League , for which he prepared three goals in seven games in his rookie year in professional ice hockey. In the 1979/80 season he joined Team USA in its Olympic preparation. After a one-year break, he ran in the 1981/82 season again in the Central Hockey League, this time for the Nashville South Stars . He then ended his active career at the age of 25.
From 1984 to 1986 Suter was the head coach of the Madison Capitols from the junior league United States Hockey League .
International
Suter took part in the 1981 World Cup for the USA . He was also in his country's squad at the 1980 Winter Olympics in Lake Placid , where he and his team won the gold medal.

family
His brother Gary Suter was also a professional ice hockey player. His sons Garrett Suter and Ryan Suter and his nephew Jeremy Dehner are also professional ice hockey players.
