Alex Daniel Tuch (born May 10, 1996 in Syracuse , New York ) is an American ice hockey player who has been under contract with the Vegas Golden Knights of the National Hockey League since June 2017 .

Career

Alex Tuch was born in Syracuse and played in his youth for the Syracuse Jr. Stars in the regional junior division. With the start of the 2010/11 season, the right winger moved to the USA Hockey National Team Development Program (NTDP), the central talent factory of USA Hockey , the US ice hockey association. With the teams of the NTDP, Tuch took part in the game operations of the United States Hockey League (USHL), the highest junior league in the country, while the selections of the program also act as junior national teams, so that he is at an international level in the World U-17 Hockey Challenge Debuted in 2013 and won the bronze medal there. In the 2013/14 season, the attacker achieved a point average of over 1.0 (32 in 26 games) and won the gold medal with the U18 selection at the U18 World Cup in 2014 . He was then selected in the NHL Entry Draft 2014 in 18th position by the Minnesota Wild .

Tuch then enrolled at Boston College and was henceforth active for their ice hockey team, the Boston College Eagles , in Hockey East , a university league in the game operations of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). As a freshman , the striker had 28 scorer points in 37 games , so that at the end of the season he was elected to the all-rookie team of Hockey East. In addition, he represented his home country at the turn of the year with the U20 national team at the U20 World Cup 2015 , where he achieved fifth place with the team. After another season at Boston College, Tuch signed an entry-level contract with the Minnesota Wild in April 2016 .

At the beginning of the 2016/17 season, Tuch changed to the organization of the Wild, initially with their farm team , the Iowa Wild , in the American Hockey League (AHL). After eleven goals and eleven assists in 34 games and a nomination for the AHL All-Star Classic , the Minnesota Wild appointed him to their squad in early February 2017, so that he made his debut in the National Hockey League a little later .

In June 2017, Minnesota handed him over to the Vegas Golden Knights and in return received a third-round vote for the 2017 or 2018 NHL Entry Draft . This was part of a transfer deal that ensured the Golden Knights selected Erik Haula from the Wild in the 2017 NHL Expansion Draft ; the latter thus protected more valuable players for them. With the Golden Knights, Tuch surprisingly reached the final of the Stanley Cup in the 2018 playoffs , but lost to the Washington Capitals there . The attacker then signed a new seven-year contract in Las Vegas in October 2018, which should bring him an average annual salary of $ 4.75 million from the start of the 2019/20 season.
