Chandler Stephenson (born April 22, 1994 in Saskatoon , Saskatchewan ) is a Canadian ice hockey player who has been under contract with the Vegas Golden Knights of the National Hockey League since December 2019 . Previously, he spent over five years in the organization of the Washington Capitals , with whom he won the Stanley Cup in the 2018 playoffs .

Career

Chandler Stephenson played in his youth for the Saskatoon Blazers and the Saskatoon Contacts in his hometown, before he moved to the Regina Pats in the Western Hockey League (WHL) in the 2010/11 season , which made him fifth in the 2009 WHL Bantam Draft Selected position. During his first year in the WHL, he gained his first experience at an international level when he took part in the World U-17 Hockey Challenge 2011 with the Canada West team, where he finished sixth with the team. In the 2011/12 season he increased his personal performance at the Pats to 22 goals and 20 assists in 55 games, so that he was invited to the CHL Top Prospects Game and was considered in the following NHL Entry Draft 2012 in 77th position by the Washington Capitals . However, the attacker initially returned to Regina for two more years, where he achieved a significant increase in performance with 89 points in 69 games in the 2013/14 season , as a result of which he was also appointed to the Second All-Star Team of the Eastern Conference .

Stephenson then signed an entry-level contract with the Capitals in April 2014 , who then used him on their farm team , the Hershey Bears , in the American Hockey League (AHL). The Canadian made his debut in the National Hockey League (NHL) in October 2015, which was followed by eight more appearances before he was called back to the AHL less than a month later. There he reached the final of the Calder Cup with the Bears at the end of the season , but lost to the Lake Erie Monsters . Apart from four NHL games, Stephenson also spent the 2016/17 season mostly in Hershey, where he increased his personal statistics again and scored 38 points in 72 games. As a result, he signed a new two-year contract in Washington in June 2017, before establishing himself in the Capitals NHL squad a few games after the start of the 2017/18 season. At the end of the season he promptly won the Stanley Cup with the team .

After spending over five years in Washington, Stephenson was surrendered to the Vegas Golden Knights in December 2019 , while the Capitals received a five-round vote for the 2021 NHL Entry Draft .
