Brayden McNabb (born January 21, 1991 in Davidson , Saskatchewan ) is a Canadian ice hockey player who has been under contract with the Vegas Golden Knights of the National Hockey League since June 2017 . He was previously active in the NHL for the Buffalo Sabers and the Los Angeles Kings .
Career
The defender was initially active from 2006 to 2007 for the Notre Dame Hounds in the lower-class Canadian Junior League Saskatchewan Midget AAA Hockey League , before he completed his first appearances for the Kootenay Ice in the Western Hockey League during the 2006/07 season . In the following season, the left-handed shooter made his breakthrough in the Western Hockey League, when he ran up in 65 games of the regular season for the Kootenay Ice and scored eleven points. In the following seasons, the Canadian managed to increase his points yield significantly; after he recorded a total of 36 scorer points in the regular season 2008/09 , one game year later there were already 56 points in his personal statistics, making him the most successful defender within the team. During this time he was selected in the third round of the 2009 NHL Entry Draft at a total of 66th position by the Buffalo Sabers .
For the 2010/11 season , McNabb was named team captain of the Kootenay Ice. With 21 goals, 51 assists and 72 points in 59 games of the regular season, he set new personal bests. In the finals, McNabb was the league's attacking defender with 27 points. In the final series of the Ed Chynoweth Cup , he prevailed with the team in five encounters against the Portland Winterhawks and won the WHL championship at the end of his junior career . In May 2011 McNabb signed a three-year entry contract with the Buffalo Sabers from the National Hockey League . For the 2011/12 season he made his debut for their farm team , the Rochester Americans , in the American Hockey League . In the same season, the defender also played his first NHL game. After the 2011/12 season, however, he did not come to any further NHL use and played exclusively for the Americans in the AHL.
In March 2014, the Sabers gave him, including Jonathan Parker and two second-round voting rights, to the Los Angeles Kings , who in return transferred Hudson Fasching and Nicolas Deslauriers to Buffalo. McNabb was used directly in the Kings farm team, the Manchester Monarchs , and his contract was extended by two years at the end of the 2013/14 season.
In June 2017, he was selected by the Vegas Golden Knights in the 2017 NHL Expansion Draft . With the team he surprisingly reached the final of the Stanley Cup in the 2018 playoffs , but lost to the Washington Capitals there .
International
McNabb represented Canada at the U18 World Junior Championship in 2009, where he stood in six games for the maple leaves on the ice and finished fourth with the team. He was also a member of the Canada Western team , which won the bronze medal at the World U-17 Hockey Challenge 2008 .
