Reilly Liam Sheeran Smith (born April 1, 1991 in Mimico , Ontario ) is a Canadian ice hockey player who has been under contract with the Vegas Golden Knights of the National Hockey League since June 2017 . The right winger previously played for the Dallas Stars , Boston Bruins and Florida Panthers in the NHL .

Career

Reilly Smith began his career as a hockey player with the St. Michael's Buzzers, for which he was active from 2007 to 2009 in the Ontario Junior Hockey League . He was then selected in the third round of the 2009 NHL Entry Draft as the 69th player of the Dallas Stars . First, however, he attended Miami University for three years , for whose ice hockey team he played parallel in the Central Collegiate Hockey Association . With his university team he won the CCHA championship in 2011. He has also received several individual awards as a player at Miami University.

Towards the end of the 2011/12 season , Smith made his debut in the National Hockey League for the Dallas Stars , remaining without points in three games and receiving two penalty minutes. The 2012/13 season , which was shortened due to a lockout , began for the Canadian with Dallas' farm team Texas Stars in the American Hockey League . After the start of the NHL season he was appointed by the Dallas Stars in their NHL squad.

In July 2013 he was transferred to the Boston Bruins along with Loui Eriksson , Joe Morrow and Matt Fraser in exchange for Tyler Seguin , Rich Peverley and Ryan Button . After two years in Boston, Smith joined the Florida Panthers with Marc Savard , who gave Jimmy Hayes to the Bruins for it.

In June 2017, he was given to the Vegas Golden Knights as part of the 2017 NHL Expansion Draft to ensure that they select Jonathan Marchessault in the draft, or to protect other players in Florida's roster from an election. As a result, both were among the numerous players who significantly increased their personal statistics at the Golden Knights, so Smith recorded 60 points and was fourth-best scorer of the team, while Marchessault got 75 points and placed himself in second place. As a result, the transfer carried out in the Expansion Draft was seen as a clear mistake on the part of the Panthers and at the same time seen as a reason for the immediate success of the Golden Knights, so the team surprisingly reached the final of the Stanley Cup in the 2018 playoffs , but lost to the Washington there Capitals . In addition, Smith led his team in the playoffs with 22 scorer points.
