James Ryan "Jimmy" Hayes (born November 21, 1989 in Boston , Massachusetts ) is an American ice hockey player who was last under contract with the Pittsburgh Penguins in the National Hockey League until July 2019 and at the same time for their farm team, the Wilkes Barre / Scranton Penguins , played in the right winger position. His younger brother is Kevin and his cousins Tom Fitzgerald and Keith Tkachuk were also professional ice hockey players.
Career
Hayes began his career as a hockey player in the USA Hockey National Team Development Program , for which he was active from 2006 to 2008 in the junior division of the North American Hockey League . The 2007/08 season, however, ended with the Lincoln Stars from the competing junior league United States Hockey League . Then the winger was selected in the NHL Entry Draft 2008 in the second round as a total of 60th player from the Toronto Maple Leafs , for which he never played. Instead, he attended Boston College from 2008 to 2011 , for whose ice hockey team he played parallel in the National Collegiate Athletic Association . With Boston College he won the NCAA championship in 2010 and the Hockey East championship in 2010 and 2011 .
In June 2010, Hayes was handed over to the Chicago Blackhawks by the Toronto Maple Leafs in exchange for a second-round vote for the 2010 NHL Entry Draft , for whose farm team Rockford IceHogs he made his professional ice hockey debut towards the end of the 2010/11 season when he was in stood on the ice for seven games in the American Hockey League . In the 2011/12 season , the American ran for the first time for the Chicago Blackhawks in the National Hockey League , for which he scored five goals and four assists in a total of 33 games in his rookie year .
In November 2013, Hayes was transferred from Chicago together with Dylan Olsen to the Florida Panthers , who in turn gave up Kris Versteeg and Philippe Lefebvre . After two years in Florida, he moved to the Boston Bruins , who in turn sent Reilly Smith and Marc Savard to Florida.
In July 2017, the Bruins bought him out of his remaining contract year (buy-out) , so that from then on he was looking for a new employer before he was put under contract by the New Jersey Devils on a probationary basis in August 2017 . A little later, they provided him with a permanent contract. This was not renewed after the 2017/18 season, so he joined the Pittsburgh Penguins as a free agent in July 2018 . His contract was not extended there in the summer of 2019.
International
For the United States , Hayes took part in the 2007 U18 World Junior Championship and the 2009 U20 World Junior Championship . At the U18 World Cup in 2007 he won the silver medal with his team. In the senior sector, he made his debut at the 2014 World Cup and made eight appearances.
