Joseph Mathew Alexander "Joe" Morrow (born December 9, 1992 in Edmonton , Alberta ) is a Canadian ice hockey player who was last until July 2020 at HK Dinamo Minsk from the Continental Hockey League (KHL) under contract and there on the position of Defender has played.
Career
In his youth, Joe Morrow played for the Strathcona Warriors and for the Sherwood Park Squires in regional youth leagues before joining the Portland Winter Hawks at the end of the 2007/08 season , who won him in the 2007 Bantam Draft of the Western Hockey League (WHL) in 28th position. In Portland, the defender increased his personal statistics from season to season until he came up with 49 scorer points in 60 games in his draft year and was also invited to the CHL Top Prospects Game . As a result, Morrow was selected in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft in 23rd position by the Pittsburgh Penguins , who provided him with an entry-level contract just under two months later . For the time being, however, the defender returned to Portland for another season, in which he came for the first time to a points average of over 1.0 (64 in 62 games) and as a result was elected to the Western Conference First All-Star Team of the WHL.
At the beginning of the 2012/13 season, Morrow switched to the organization of the Pittsburgh Penguins and initially ran for their farm team , the Wilkes-Barre / Scranton Penguins , in the American Hockey League (AHL). After 57 AHL games, however, he was given a five-round vote for the 2013 NHL Entry Draft to the Dallas Stars in March 2013 , who in return sent the unrelated Brenden Morrow and a third-round vote for the same draft to Pittsburgh . He finished the season with 17 missions with the AHL farm team of the Dallas Stars, the Texas Stars . In July 2013, Morrow was handed over to the Boston Bruins along with Loui Eriksson , Matt Fraser and Reilly Smith . In return, Tyler Seguin , Rich Peverley and Ryan Button moved to Dallas. After another season in the AHL, which he spent with the Providence Bruins , Morrow made his debut for the Boston Bruins in the National Hockey League (NHL) in October 2014 . During the season he came to a total of 15 NHL missions in Boston, but moved regularly back to the AHL farm team in Providence. At the beginning of the 2015/16 season, Morrow established himself in the Boston Bruins squad and was not sent back to the AHL, but he still only comes to the season irregularly, so he was only 33 times for the Bruins in the 2015/16 season Ice. In July 2016, he extended his expiring contract with the Bruins for one year.
Subsequently, however, the defender did not receive a new contract in Boston and thus moved to the Canadiens de Montréal as a free agent in July 2017 . However, the Canadiens gave it to the Winnipeg Jets by the trade deadline in February 2018 and received a four-round vote in the 2018 NHL Entry Draft . He ran for the Jets until the end of the 2018/19 season before he was not given a further contract in the summer of 2019. Even taking part in the pre-season for the New York Rangers did not lead to a permanent commitment in September 2019, before the New Jersey Devils finally provided him with a one-year contract in October of the same year. There he was exclusively with the Binghamton Devils in the AHL until December , before an early termination of his contract was agreed. A little later, the defender moved to Europe for the first time and joined the HK Dinamo Minsk in the Continental Hockey League (KHL). After 22 missions, he was released there in July 2020.
