Shea Theodore (born August 3, 1995 in Langley , British Columbia ) is a Canadian ice hockey player who has been under contract with the Vegas Golden Knights of the National Hockey League since June 2017 . Previously, he spent two years in the Anaheim Ducks organization .

Career

Theodore first played in various lower-class junior teams before he was promoted to the Seattle Thunderbirds squad from the Western Hockey League at the end of the 2010/11 season . There he became a regular player in the following three seasons and was finally selected in the first round of the NHL Entry Draft 2013 in 26th place by the Anaheim Ducks .

At the end of the 2013/14 season he came to his first assignments for the Norfolk Admirals in the American Hockey League (AHL). In the WHL, however, he led all defenders in assists (57) and scorer points (79) and was consequently elected to the WHL West First All-Star Team . He was also elected to the All-Star Team the following year, and in the 2014/15 season he was also awarded the Bill Hunter Memorial Trophy as the best defensive player. With this season ended Theodore's career in the WHL; he was transferred back to the Norfolk Admirals in April 2015 and then ran with the Ducks' new farm team, the San Diego Gulls , at the beginning of the 2015/16 season . At the end of December 2015, the defender made his debut for the Ducks in the National Hockey League (NHL), where he made 25 appearances by the end of the season. Theodore has been in Anaheim's NHL squad since the 2016/17 season and receives more Ice Age there than in the AHL.

In June 2017, Theodore was given to the Vegas Golden Knights . This was part of a transfer deal that ensured the Golden Knights would select Clayton Stoner from the Ducks in the 2017 NHL Expansion Draft ; the latter thus protected more valuable players for them. With the Golden Knights, he surprisingly reached the final of the Stanley Cup in the 2018 playoffs , but lost to the Washington Capitals there . The Canadian then signed a new seven-year contract in Vegas, which should bring him an average annual salary of $ 5.2 million.

International

In 2011 he represented his home province British Columbia at the Canada Games and won the gold medal there. On an international level, Theodore played for his home country at the Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament in 2012 and at the U18 World Cup in 2013 , where he also achieved first place as well as in the U20 World Cup in 2015 .

Theodore made his international debut in the jersey of the senior national team at the 2019 World Cup in Slovakia , where he won the silver medal with the team.
