Clayton Stoner (born February 19, 1985 in Port McNeill , British Columbia ) is a retired Canadian ice hockey player . The defender played over 300 games for the Minnesota Wild and Anaheim Ducks in the National Hockey League between 2009 and 2016 . At the same time he was used to the same extent in the American Hockey League .

Career

Clayton Stoner began his career as a hockey player with the Powell River Kings, for which he was active from 2000 to 2002 in the British Columbia Hockey League . He then played for three years for the Tri-City Americans in Canada's top junior league Western Hockey League . During this period, the defender was selected in the third round of the 2004 NHL Entry Draft as a total of 79th player by the Minnesota Wild . From 2005 to 2010 he ran for Minnesota's farm team Houston Eros in the American Hockey League . In the 2009/10 season he also made his debut in the National Hockey League for the Minnesota Wild, in whose NHL team he was a regular from 2010.

In early July 2014, Stoner signed a four-year deal with the Anaheim Ducks . In June 2017, he was selected by the Vegas Golden Knights in the 2017 NHL Expansion Draft . In addition, Vegas received Shea Theodore from the Ducks to protect other players in their squad from an election. Then Stoner did not play a game of the 2017/18 season due to injury before his contract was not extended in summer 2018. As a result, he ended his active career and stayed in the organization of the Golden Knights, who hired him as a coach in their youth program.

Personal

In May 2013, while on a hunting trip in British Columbia , Stoner killed a grizzly bear that was used to humans and called "Cheeky" by the indigenous peoples. Stoner was fined $ 10,000 and was banned from hunting for three years in January 2016. The trophies he had cut off (head, paw and fur) were returned and buried in a traditional ceremony by the natives in August 2016.
