Life

Gisbert Näther was born on July 30, 1948 in Ebersbach / Sa. born. The parents ran a bakery in the place of birth. He started playing the piano at an early age and, even as a schoolboy, composed small pieces without instruction that were performed with his family. After graduating from high school, he studied horn and composition at the Carl Maria von Weber Academy of Music in Dresden . After passing the state examination in both subjects in 1974, he worked as a horn player in the Jena Philharmonic and from 1977 at the Hans-Otto-Theater in Potsdam . During this time his composing activity was suspended. It was only when he switched to the DEFA Symphony Orchestra in 1981 that he began to compose again, initially chamber music , mostly commissioned works, for colleagues. After the merger of the DEFA Symphony Orchestra and the Radio Berlin Dance Orchestra to form the Babelsberg German Film Orchestra in 1993, Gisbert Näther became its member.

Gisbert Näther has composed for traditional instrumentations, but also for unusual, sometimes exotic and deliberately grotesque instrumentations - in addition to a piece for 12 bassoons - Rondo fagottissimo z. B. a concerto for three bassoons, contrabassoon and orchestra. In addition, his compositional repertoire contains numerous pieces for educational use. From 1992 he wrote works for a large orchestra - with and without soloists, premiered by the orchestra of the Deutsche Oper Berlin , the Berlin Symphony Orchestra and the German Film Orchestra Babelsberg . Several compositions for wind orchestra have received awards. Gisbert Näther became known throughout Germany for his scenic and semi-scenic works for children and young people. They became the popular inventory of numerous family concerts and ballet performances. In 2011 two operas were premiered.
Näther's tonal language follows, although at first glance at home in the most varied currents and epochs, which she lends almost carefree, free-tonal polystilistic principles of high individuality and consistency. He deliberately distinguishes himself from the requirements of today's musical ideology and writes “modern” or “unfashionable” in a similar way to what Poulenc , Ibert or Françaix did in France - in a formulation by Jean Françaix: music that brings joy. She reveals a very distinctive handwriting - memorable basic motifs, strict processing, sound painting, colored instrumentation, temperament and scarcity.
