Scott Lawton

Scott Lawton (born July 4, 1960 in New Castle , Pennsylvania ) is an American conductor and pianist .

Life

Scott Lawton studied at Oberlin College and the College-Conservatory of Music Cincinnati . After positions as a solo coach in Bielefeld and Kapellmeister at the Saarland State Theater , he became chief conductor of the Babelsberg German Film Orchestra in 1999 . Since 2005 he has been the conductor of the North Rhine-Westphalia State Police Orchestra . From 2004 to 2009 he was also musical director at the Gandersheim Cathedral Festival . He teaches music interpretation at the Folkwang University in Essen.

He has appeared as a guest conductor with many orchestras, including the Cologne Radio Orchestra, the Gürzenich Orchestra Cologne, the Wuppertal Symphony Orchestra , the Saarland State Orchestra , the Meininger Hofkapelle , the Brandenburg State Orchestra Frankfurt and the Philharmonic Orchestra of the City of Ulm .

Scott Lawton oversees symphonic crossover projects with the Scorpions , Udo Lindenberg , Karat , The World Quintet , Mousse T. and Omara Portuondo with the Buena Vista Social Club ; He has also conducted concerts and recordings with Tatiana Lisnic , Johannes Heesters , Joja Wendt , Otto Waalkes , Frank Popp Ensemble , Soulounge , Motion Trio , Mísia , Betin Güneş , Franck Tortiller , Louie Austen , Jon Lord and Joy Denalane .

Every year he conducts the José Carreras benefit concert in Leipzig and has conducted many concerts since 2000 at the Classic Open Air at Gendarmenmarkt in Berlin. In 2005 he also conducted the opening concert of the Wiener Festwochen . In 2007, 2008 and 2010 he conducted the final concert of the Potsdam Sanssouci Music Festival in front of the illuminated backdrop of the New Palais.

In addition to his work as a conductor, he composed Mozart in Manhattan in 2005 , an opera thriller about Lorenzo da Ponte's life in New York, and in 2007 When Doctors Love , a parody of the doctor's novel genre for the music theater . Both works were shown for the first time at the Gandersheim Cathedral Festival.
