The Alp Transit Gotthard AG ( ATG ) is a subsidiary of the Swiss Federal Railways , based in Lucerne and branch offices in Altdorf , Bellinzona , Faido and Sedrun .

The company was hived off from SBB by resolution of the SBB Board of Directors on November 7, 1997. The company became active in May 1998. Its purpose is to build the Gotthard axis , the centerpiece of the new rail link through the Alps . Around 140 people take care of studies, planning, tendering procedures, awards, construction supervision and public relations work in connection with the project planning and construction of the Gotthard and Ceneri base tunnels and their access routes. The chairman of the management is Dieter Schwank.

As the client , the company is responsible to the federal government for adhering to deadlines and budgets .
