The Vancouver Millionaires were a professional ice hockey team from the Canadian city of Vancouver that existed from 1911 to 1926. The team won the prestigious Stanley Cup in 1915 .
history
In the first three years, the team had a negative match record. In the team's debut season, the duo Newsy Lalonde and Frank Patrick , who later also took care of the Millionaires as head coach, made an extremely positive impression due to their goal risk. The following year Lalonde left the team and returned to the Montréal Canadiens . In the 1914/15 season, the team put the best points team in the Pacific Coast Hockey Association and met in the finals for the Stanley Cup as the winner of the PCHA on the Ottawa Senators , who won the National Hockey Association . The series ended in three games in favor of the victorious Vancouver Millionaires, who won all three games against the Senators, scoring 26 goals, while the Senators get eight.
They moved into the final five more times, but lost each (1918 against the Toronto Arenas , 1921 and 1923 against the Ottawa Senators, 1922 against the Toronto St. Patricks and 1924 against the Canadiens de Montréal). In 1922 the team changed their name to the Vancouver Maroons . Until 1924, the team was represented in the Pacific Coast Hockey Association, then in the Western Canada Hockey League .
The team played their home games in the 10,500-seat Denman Arena , which opened in 1911 and was destroyed in a fire in 1936.
