Mark Visentin (born August 7, 1992 in Waterdown , Ontario ) is a former Canadian ice hockey goalkeeper who has played for the Phoenix Coyotes in the National Hockey League during his playing career .
Career
Mark Visentin began his career with the Halton Hurricanes in the South-Central Triple A Hockey League. In 2008 he was selected by the Niagara IceDogs in the third round of the Priority Selection of the Ontario Hockey League as the 55th player. After good performance, he was selected in the first round of the Phoenix Coyotes in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft in 27th place. However, he stayed with the IceDogs for the next two years. In 2011 he achieved the second-best catch quota in the league behind Petr Mrázek from the Ottawa 67’s and was voted into the First-All-Star-Team as well as the OHL Goaltender of the Year . In the following year he achieved the third-best catch quota in the league, was elected to the second-all-star team and won the Dave Pinkney Trophy for the best goals conceded by an OHL team with his goalkeeper colleague Christopher Festarini . In addition, he succeeded in the success against the Ottawa 67's in the third game of the final series of the Eastern Conference of the OHL the hit to 5-2 final score for the IceDogs.
In 2012 he moved to the Portland Pirates , the then farm team of his draft club Phoenix Coyotes , for whom he was on the ice a total of 75 times in the American Hockey League . On April 12, 2014, he came to his only NHL appearance when he guarded the goal of the Coyotes in the 3-2 loss to the San Jose Sharks . After he did not play for the Pirates in the 2014/15 season, he moved to league rivals Rockford IceHogs . After another year in North America with the Cincinnati Cyclones in the ECHL , he moved to Europe for the first time in 2017 when he signed a contract with Fehérvár AV19 ( Székesfehérvár ) from the Erste Bank Ice Hockey League in May 2017 . He completed the full preparation for the Hungarian club, but injured himself after his first appearance in the EBEL and was released in October 2017. In October 2018, he announced the end of his career as an active player.
International
Visentin first made international talk at the World U-17 Hockey Challenge 2009 , which he won with the Ontario regional selection. With the Canadian junior national team , he took part in the U20 World Championships in 2011 and 2012 , when he achieved the lowest average goal and after the Russian Andrei Wassilewski the second-best catch quota. He and his team won the silver medal in 2011 and the bronze medal in 2012.
