Darren Archibald (born February 9, 1990 in Newmarket , Ontario ) is a Canadian ice hockey player who has been under contract with the Belleville Senators from the American Hockey League since February 2020 and plays for them in the position of right winger .
Career
Archibald played during his junior years initially between 2007 and 2008 for the Stouffville Spirit in the Ontario Junior Hockey League , before he was signed for the 2008/09 season by the Barrie Colts from the Ontario Hockey League . There the winger spent his first two and a half years in the league. During this period he was elected to the OHL's Second All-Rookie Team at the end of his first season. In addition, he reached the final series of the J. Ross Robertson Cup with the Colts in the 2009/10 season , in which, however, they were subject to the Windsor Spitfires . In early December 2010, the striker was then transferred to the Niagara IceDogs within the league . A few days later he was signed as a free agent by the Vancouver Canucks of the National Hockey League for the 2011/12 season after Archibald was not included in the NHL Entry Draft . The Canadian finally ended his junior career with the Niagara IceDogs in spring 2011.
With the beginning of the 2011/12 game year , Archibald came to the Canucks farm team . Between 2011 and 2013 he played for the Chicago Wolves in the American Hockey League and the Kalamazoo Wings in the ECHL . For the 2013/14 season , the attacker was in the squad of the Utica Comets from the AHL, which acted as the new cooperation partner of Vancouver. In the following five and a half years until January 2019, Archibald was mainly a member of the Comets squad and was one of the team's assistant captains from the 2016/17 season . He also came from the 2013/14 game year sporadically for the Vancouver Canucks in the NHL. After 16 games this season, another 27 followed in the 2017/18 season . After the offensive player had played a few games for the Canucks again the following season, he was transferred to the Ottawa Senators together with goalkeeper Anders Nilsson in early January 2019 . In return, Tom Pyatt and Mike McKenna gave these to Vancouver.
After the 2018/19 season, Archibald signed an AHL-limited contract with the Toronto Marlies in July 2019 . These gave him in February 2020 in exchange for Trent Bourque to the Belleville Senators, so that he returned to his place of work the previous year.
