Euphorbia baylissii is a species of the genus milkweed ( Euphorbia ) in the family of the milkweed family(Euphorbiaceae).

description

The succulent Euphorbia baylissii forms shrubs up to 80 centimeters in height. A few branches grow out of a trunk. The square shoots are dark green in color with pale vertical stripes. They are about 1.5 centimeters thick and on the slightly winged edges are teeth with indentations 8 to 17 millimeters apart. The obovate thorn shields stand individually. Thorns up to 4.5 millimeters in length and very small stipple thorns are formed.

The inflorescence consists of single and simple cymes , which stand on a 1.5 millimeter long stalk. The slightly purple colored cyathia are 6 millimeters in size and the elongated nectar glands are adjacent to each other. The bluntly lobed and only slightly protruding fruit is up to 4 millimeters long and 5.5 millimeters wide. The almost spherical seed is about 2 millimeters in size and is densely covered with warts.

Distribution and systematics

Euphorbia baylissii is common in the south of Mozambique on dunes with evergreen shrub growth near the coast.

The first description of the species was in 1964 by Leslie Charles Leach .
