The Jaskinia Twardowskiego cave (German: Twardowski cave ) is a cave in the Krzemionki Zakrzowskie massif in the southern foothills of the Kraków-Częstochowa Jura in the Zakrzówek district of the Polish city of Kraków . It lies between the lake Jezioro Zakrzówek in the former quarry of the same name and the Vistula . Not far from the cave is the Helle Höhle .
Location and description
The cave is over 500 meters long and 17 meters deep. The entrance is at an altitude of approx. 215 m npm . The cave was already inhabited in the Stone Age.
etymology
The name can be translated as Twardowski's Cave and alludes to the legend of Pan Twardowski , who is said to have had his alchemical laboratory in the cave during the reign of Sigismund II August .
tourism
The cave is freely accessible. However, it is not developed for tourists, and there is no electrical lighting.
