Andrew Agozzino (born January 3, 1991 in Vaughan , Ontario ) is a Canadian ice hockey player . Since February 2020 he has been under contract with the Anaheim Ducks from the National Hockey League and plays in parallel for their farm team , the San Diego Gulls , in the position of left winger .
Career
Agozzino played for the Mississauga IceDogs in a junior league in the Greater Toronto Area , before he was selected in the first round of the 2007 Priority Selection of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) in 15th position by the Niagara IceDogs . The player decided at the beginning of the 2007/08 OHL season to move to the Canadian Major Junior League and played a total of 50 games; he got 22 scorer points . After he was eliminated with his team in the 2008/09 season in the OHL play-offs in the second round against the Belleville Bulls , he was appointed team captain of the Niagara IceDogs at the beginning of the 2009/10 OHL season . He held this position until the end of his junior career in 2012. In the 2009/10 season Agozzino completed 66 games and achieved a points average of 1 per game for the first time. After he lost to the Ottawa 67’s in the first round with the IceDogs , the Peoria Rivermen from the American Hockey League (AHL) signed him for the rest of the regular season by means of a so-called "amateur try-out contract".
After no further contract offer was made to him as a result, he returned to the Niagara IceDogs in the OHL for the 2010/11 season . In the 2011/12 season he finished the regular season as the fifth best scorer in the OHL. In the play-offs he reached the final of the J. Ross Robertson Cup with the IceDogs and was defeated there in the best-of-seven series by the London Knights after five games. Following the season, Agozzino was awarded the Leo Lalonde Memorial Trophy as the best "Overage" player and the Mickey Renaud Captain's Trophy as the most exemplary team captain . In addition, he was elected to the OHL Third All-Star Team. Andrew Agozzino finished his junior career with the most games (318), goals (159), assists (147), and scorer points (306) in the history of the Niagara IceDogs.
In the summer of 2012 he signed a contract with the Lake Erie Monsters from the American Hockey League. After convincing performances at the beginning of the season, Agozzino was invited to the AHL All-Star Classic 2013. On March 22, 2013, he signed a two-year entry contract with the Colorado Avalanche from the National Hockey League (NHL). The Lake Erie Monsters act as Colorado's farm team . Agozzino finished the 2012/13 AHL season with 52 points from 76 appearances as Lake Erie's top scorer.
During the 2014/15 season, Agozzino made his NHL debut, with this one use for the time being. After the 2015/16 season he did not receive a new contract in the organization of the Avalanche, so he joined the St. Louis Blues as a free agent in July 2016 . After a year without an NHL mission, the attacker returned to Colorado in July 2017 - again as a free agent. The attacker played there for two years and signed a new two-year contract with the Pittsburgh Penguins in July 2019 . From there, however, he got to the Anaheim Ducks via the waiver in February 2020 when he was supposed to be sent to the AHL again.
