Exhibitions
- January 27th to February 14th : The Exposition Internationale du Surréalisme , an exhibition of artists of surrealism , is held in the Galerie Beaux-Arts in Paris , run by Georges Wildenstein . The organizers are the French writer André Breton , the head and theoretician of the Surrealists, as well as the most famous poet of the movement, Paul Éluard . The event, designed as a total work of art , shows 229 works by 60 exhibitors from 14 countries and includes paintings, art objects, collages , photographs and installations .
- The Aboriginal artist Albert Namatjira has that is rapidly sold out in Melbourne his first exhibition.

- July 19 : Salvador Dalí meets Sigmund Freud in his London apartment and explains to him the depth psychological aspects of Surrealism. On this occasion he paints the portrait of Sigmund Freud .
