Bruno Bozzetto (born March 3, 1938 in Milan ) is an Italian cartoon animator and film director .

Life

In addition to the creation of characters such as Signor Rossi (1960), Bozzetto is the creator of many short animations , mainly of a political or satirical nature. He describes the 1953 Disney short film "The Music Lesson " by animator Ward Kimball as a trend-setting inspiration ; his stylistic model was the "Eastern European school" of animation. "West and Soda" ("The Wildest West") was released as early as 1965, the first of three films that humorously used the stereotypes of various cinematic genres , but also always represented a loving homage. In 1968 he created VIP - My Brother, the Superman , a very important and largely forgotten work; His best-known work is probably the film Allegro non troppo , produced in 1976 , a montage of short films , backed by classical music , in the style of Disney's Fantasia . In 1980 the series Lilliputput followed , which could be seen on German television in the show with the mouse and fun on Tuesday .

In 1987 he made his first film with actors; his film Cavalette was nominated for an Oscar for Best Animated Short Film in 1991 .

In the last few years Bozzetto has been creating flash animations for the Internet ; The best known of these are “Italy & Europe” and “Yes & No - a dyseducational road movie”, a graphically simple, but witty and funny comparison between Italy and the rest of Europe and correct and incorrect behavior in traffic.

In 2018 a sequel to VIP - my brother, the superman in comic form was released under the title Minivip & Supervip. Il mistero del viavai ( Eng . Minivip & Supervip - The secret of the there-and-away , Splitter Verlag 2019), drawn by Grégory Panaccione based on a scenario by Bruno Bozzetto and Nicola Ioppolo.

Koch Media released the 4-DVD box Die Welt des Bruno Bozzetto in November 2019 , which contains several feature films and short films (1965–1976), but no Mr. Rossi films.
