- April 28 : After four years of construction, the Golden Gate Bridge near San Francisco is completed.
- June: The Art Deco style central market in Phnom Penh is completed.
- The Streamline Moderne , a late branch of the Art Deco , experienced its peak.
- Most of the Palais du Trocadéro will be demolished for the Paris World Exhibition and replaced by the Palais de Chaillot .
- The post office in Taranto , built in the typical style of Italian fascism, will be completed after two years of construction.

- The American sculptor Alexander Calder is building a mercury fountain for the Spanish pavilion at the World Exhibition in Paris to commemorate the victims of mercury mining .

- after April 26th : After the air raid on Gernika , Pablo Picasso paints the painting Guernica for the world exhibition in Paris . The picture will be unveiled in the Spanish Pavilion on July 12th .
- Salvador Dalí produced the paintings The Metamorphosis of Narcissus , The Riddle of Hitler , The Invention of the Monster and Swans Reflecting Elephants , among others .
- René Magritte paints the works La Reproduction interdite , Hegel's Holidays: The Therapist and The Red Model .

Museums and exhibitions
- May 8th : The Reich Exhibition of Creative People opens in Düsseldorf . In addition to “new German art”, “new German living” and “new German working” will also be presented. With the exhibition, a completely new district is being created in Düsseldorf, of which only the Nordpark remains today .
- May 24th : In the course of the world exhibition , the Palais de Tokyo on the right bank of the Seine in Paris is inaugurated by the French President Albert Lebrun as a museum of modern art.
- July 18 : The House of German Art , designed by Paul Ludwig Troost and realized by his widow Gerdy Troost with the help of Leonhard Gall , opens in Munich . The Great German Art Exhibition shown therein is designed as a sales exhibition and is representative of art under National Socialism .
- July 19 : The National Socialist propaganda exhibition Degenerate Art opens in Munich. It lasts until November and will then be shown as a traveling exhibition in several cities.

- The Doerner Institute for the care of the holdings of the Bavarian State Painting Collections is founded.
- The Solomon R. Guggenheim Foundation is donated by the American art patron Solomon R. Guggenheim and the German painter Hilla von Rebay .
Awards ceremonies
- January 30th : As a reaction to the award of the Nobel Peace Prize to Carl von Ossietzky , Adolf Hitler donates the German National Prize for Art and Science . At the same time, all Germans are forbidden to accept a Nobel Prize “for all future” . Gerdy Troost's draft documents will be presented on December 7th . The first prize winners will be announced three months earlier, on September 7th .
