Reinhard Liess

Reinhard Liess (born April 10, 1937 in Bunzlau , Silesia ) is a German art historian .

Life

Liess received his doctorate in 1965 at the University of Munich with the thesis The early Romanesque church building of the 11th century in Normandy. Analyzes and monographs of the main buildings . He completed his habilitation in 1970 with a thesis on Truth and Reality in the Art of PP Rubens at the Technical University of Braunschweig , which was published in 1977 under the title The Art of Rubens . Liess became a university lecturer in 1971, taught art history since 1974 as an adjunct professor in Braunschweig and Regensburg , from 1978 as a university professor in Braunschweig, from 1990 to 2002 at the University of Osnabrück . From March to June 2001 he held a guest professorship at the Universidad Nacional de Cuyo in Mendoza (Argentina) sponsored by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) . Liess retired on September 30, 2002 .

In research and teaching, Liess deals with art from the Middle Ages to modern times, especially with architecture, painting and graphics. A special interest was the planning history of the Strasbourg cathedral and the person of Erwin von Steinbach . Most recently in 2004 he published the anthology Jan Vermeer van Delft , Pieter Bruegel the Elder. , Rogier van der Weyden . Three studies on Dutch art ; 2003 the book Im Spiegel der “Meninas”. Velázquez about himself and Rubens .
