Alexander Tzonis

Alexander Tzonis ( Greek Αλέξανδρος Τζώνης , born November 8, 1937 in Athens ) is an architectural theorist and critic. In 2005 he retired as a professor at the TU Delft . Since 2007 he has been a professor at Tsinghua University .

biography

Tzonis is the son of a chemical engineer and a biology professor from the University of Thessaloniki . He first turned to mathematics, but worked as a set and scenery designer during his studies. A scholarship from the Ford Foundation enabled him to study at Yale , where he published works of design methodology together with his professor Serge Chermayeff after completing his studies. He first taught at Harvard and later became a professor at the TU Delft . His wife Liane Lefaivre is a professor at the University of Applied Arts Vienna , she is also the co-author of many of his works.

Act

Tzonis coined the term critical regionalism in architecture, and he also focused on the canon of forms of the Greek classical period.
