Quinlan Terry
Quinlan Terry , CBE (born July 24, 1937 in London ) is a British architect . He became known for his rejection of modern designs and materials and for Palladian - classicist and neo-historical buildings in Great Britain and the USA .
Life
Terry studied at the London Architectural Association School from 1955 to 1960 . In 1962 he became an employee of Raymond Erith in Dedham (Essex) . Awarded a Rome scholarship, he studied ancient buildings in Italy in 1967/68 . In 1967 he became a partner in Erith's office and after his death in 1973 sole owner. His son Francis Terry has been his partner since 1994 .
Terry is a member of the Royal Institute of British Architects . In 1994, 2003, 2005 and 2008 his designs were awarded architecture prizes. Critics, including celebrities like Richard Rogers , accuse him of epigonism and are sometimes violently against the execution of his designs.
One of Quinlan Terry's most prominent advocates is Prince Charles , who calls Terry his favorite architect. In 2015 Terry was inducted into the Order of the British Empire as Commander .
