Francis Bertrand (born April 24, 1937 in Ukkel , Belgium ; † October 26, 1994 in Rixensart , Belgium) was a Belgian cartoonist .

life and work

Bertrand, who signed exclusively with his first name, graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts. In 1957 he created his first comic for La Cité magazine . He then assisted Greg on his comic projects. In the early 1960s, Bertrand started working for Spirou magazine . He also assisted Peyo in the series Johann and Pfiffikus and The Smurfs . In cooperation with the comic author Maurice Tillieux , the series Marc Lebut et son Voisin was created in 1966 , which was continued until 1983; after Tillieux's death, Bertrand also took over his writing. In the 1970s and 1980s he drew the series Capitaine Lahuche and Les Soldats de Plomb, among others . In addition to Spirou , Bertrand also published in other comic magazines such as Pilote and Tintin .
