Rixensart ( Walloon Ricsinsåt ) is a municipality in the French-speaking province of Walloon Brabant in Belgium . It consists of the three districts of Genval , Rixensart and Rosières .

Rixensart is the main production site for the vaccines division of the pharmaceutical company GlaxoSmithKline . Based on the production location, almost all vaccines from GSK have the suffix "-rix" in their name. Rixensart is also GlaxoSmithKline's research and development center for new vaccines.

In Rixensart, the Brussels S-Bahn is integrated into the Belgian capital's local transport network via a station on the S 8 line .

Town twinning

Rixensart has had a partnership with the North Rhine-Westphalian city of Winterberg since 1974 . Further partnerships exist with Touquet (France, since 1970), Birstall (Great Britain), Poperinge (Belgium), Bradu (Romania) and Ruhondo (Rwanda).

politics

Seti 2006 was the liberal ( MR ) Mayor Jean Vanderbecken in office, he was re-elected with an absolute majority in the 2012 local elections with his open list ( Nouvelle Alliance Pluraliste - MR ). As a result of an operation, he died at the age of 62 on June 6, 2017. On October 14, 2018, Patricia Lebon was elected as the new mayor.
