Madeleine Defrenne
Madeleine Defrenne (* 1916 in Genval, Rixensart ; † 2008 ) was a Belgian Romance philologist and literary scholar.
life and work
Madeleine Defrenne studied in Brussels and was a high school teacher from 1939 to 1959. In 1940 she was briefly assistant to Gustave Charlier . She did her doctorate in 1956 on Odilon-Jean Périer (Brussels 1957) and became Emilie Noulet's assistant , representing her from 1959 and succeeding her in 1962, from 1964 as associate professor and from 1967 to 1982 as full professor.
