Yamada made her debut in the Continental Cup on March 3, 2009 in Zaō and finished in 28th place. In the second jumping she again reached the 28th place. In the 2009/10 season Yamada went back to the Continental Cup at the start. After a 29th place in the first competition, she was able to improve a bit in the second and took 26th place. At the Junior World Championships in Otepää , Yamada took part for the first and so far only time in a jumping outside of Japan and made it into the second round as 30th. At the COC in Zao, Yamada achieved her best result to date in the Continental Cup in 22nd place.
On January 7, 2012, she made her World Cup debut in Hinterzarten . In the 2011/12 season she then only took part in the competitions on the Zaō-Schanze . Also in the following season 2012/13 she played only five of thirteen competitions and thus reached 45th place in the overall ranking.
At the Olympic premiere of women's ski jumping, she finished last in thirtieth place.
