Culture and sights
building
The originally Gothic Saint Martin Church in Perwez has been redesigned several times or rebuilt after being destroyed, and the last time it was thoroughly restored in 1840–1848. She has three renaissance style naves . The bell tower, whose three-part top is shaped like two octagonal bells of different sizes, which are separated by a perforated central part, is striking.
The Saint-Jean-Baptiste church in Wastines, dedicated to John the Baptist , was built in 1855 according to plans by the architect Moreau in the neoclassical style with three naves. The sandstone tower of the dilapidated previous building, dating from the 13th century, was integrated and given a new octagonal tip.
The Assumption Church Notre-Dame de l'Assomption in Sainte-Marie was built between 1908 and 1913 on the remains of an old church in neo-Gothic style . The tower from the 11th / 12th. It was made of sandstone in the 16th century and, similar to that of Saint-Jean-Baptiste, has an octagonal bell tower. The sacristy (13th century) was also integrated into the new building.
The three-aisled church of Saint-Ulric in Malèves was built in 1865 according to plans by the architect Coulon on the ruins of an older church in neo-Gothic style from bricks with stone corners. The square tower rising from the center of the entrance facade has a pyramid-shaped top. A black marble cenotaph and a grave slab for Louis de Stradio († 1577) and Marguerite de Berghes are embedded in the left wall of the choir .
The Saint Lambert Church in Orbais was built in 1762 on the ruins of a medieval structure. The small tower with an octagonal top was reconstructed in 1842. The Gothic cross in the choir dates from the 16th century. Since a severe fever epidemic came to an end around 1766 after the celebration of a series of services in honor of St. Wivine , she became the second patroness of the community after Lambert . Wivine is the patron saint of small children and families, which is why she is invoked above all for eye and throat diseases, fever and pleurisy, but also for all animal diseases.
The Saint-Trond church in Thorembais-Saint-Trond was built in 1785 on the ruins of the smaller previous building based on plans by the architect Nivoy. The square tower in Romanesque style was retained. As early as 1172, in the presence of the lord of Orbais, a small parish church was bought by the Bonne-Espérance Abbey.
Since the 12th century there was a church in Thorembais-les-Béguines, which at that time belonged to the Abbey of Villers-la-Ville . The current three-aisled church Saint-Roch et Saint-Martin was built in 1851 in the neoclassical style . Its square tower has a 23 m high top.
