Henri Cain
Henri Cain (born October 11, 1857 in Paris , † November 21, 1937 there ) was a French painter , playwright and librettist .
Life
Cain came from a family of artists. His father was the sculptor Auguste-Nicolas Caïn , his grandfather the sculptor Pierre-Jules Mêne . His brother Georges Cain became known as a painter. In the course of his life he wrote around forty opera libretti, including several for Jules Massenet and several for Gustave Doret . He was also the author of several novels. As a painter he portrayed a. a. his father Auguste Cain, the singer Emma Calvé and Henri d'Orleans .
Cain was a member of the Société des Artistes français , the Société des Auteurs dramatiques and the Société des Compositeurs . He was honored as an officer in the Legion of Honor.
