Arthur Bernède (born January 5, 1871 in Redon (Ille-et-Vilaine) , † March 20, 1937 ) was a French writer , playwright , librettist and journalist , who is mainly known for his over 200 crime, adventure and history novels made a name. Belphégor , Judex and Mandrin are among the best-known figures he created , but real personalities such as Vidocq were also immortalized in his works. His greatest success was the story of Belphégor , which was filmed several times, most recently in 2001 under the title " Belphégor, le fantôme du Louvre ".
