Melchior Frommel

Melchior Frommel (born March 2, 1937 in Münster / Taunus ) is a retired German high school teacher, visual artist and publisher.

Life

Frommel was born in Münster im Taunus in 1937 as the son of the composer Gerhard Frommel and his wife Gertrud. His grandfather was the Protestant theologian and writer Otto Frommel . After the bombing of Bad Homburg vor der Höhe in May 1941, the family stayed in the Black Forest until 1947. Frommel attended the humanistic grammar school in Heidelberg until 1956 and then completed a year of training with the painter Karl Rödel in Mannheim. From 1957 to 1963 he attended the art academy in Munich . He got to know the artist Margret Bilger in Taufkirchen an der Pram in 1957 . With her he visited the 80-year-old Alfred Kubin in Zwickledt. In the autumn of 1958 Frommel was involved as a draftsman in archaeological excavations under Ernst Buschor on the island of Samos .

In 1960 he completed an internship in glass painting with Odilo Kurka and Margret Bilger at the Schlierbach Monastery in Upper Austria . In 1963 he married his wife Franziska, with whom he has four children (and five grandchildren). From 1965 to 1973 Frommel was an art and German teacher at the Gymnasium Laufen an der Salzach , 1973 to 1979 at the German School Thessaloniki , from 1979 to 1998 at the Gymnasium Oberhaching near Munich. In the schools he edited the annual reports that appear annually. Since 1998, Melchior Frommel has been living as a retired director of studies in Munich and in Oberschlierbach , Upper Austria.

Frommel emerged as a draftsman and editor of artist monographs, especially on the life and work of Margret Bilger. His painterly work was limited to the 1950s to 1970s. A round window made in 1961 using the stone glass technique 'The Good Shepherd' is located in the Schlierbach branch church in Sautern . In his graphic work, Melchior Frommel concentrated on pen drawings after faces. The linear Greek are clearly different from the Austrian with internal drawings, which betray the influence of Kubin.
