Thuri Lorenz

Hanns-Thuri Lorenz (born August 3, 1931 in Breslau ; † April 8, 2017 in Munich ) was a German classical archaeologist .

After attending the art academy in Munich and Karlsruhe and studying classical archeology, history and art history in Vienna and Heidelberg , Lorenz received his doctorate in 1962 at the University of Heidelberg and completed his habilitation in 1969 at the University of Würzburg , where he had been active since 1965. In 1976 he became an associate professor in Würzburg. From 1984 to 1999 Lorenz was Professor of Classical Archeology at the University of Graz, succeeding Erna Diez . After a nine-year vacancy at the chair, Peter Scherrer succeeded him in 2008 .
