Rudolf Heberdey

Rudolf Heberdey (born March 10, 1864 in Ybbs an der Donau , † April 7, 1936 in Graz ) was an Austrian classical archaeologist .

Life

Heberdey received his doctorate on January 13th, 1887, Sub auspiciis Imperatoris , and in 1894 received the license to teach at the University of Vienna . From 1898 he was head of the branch of the Austrian Archaeological Institute in Smyrna and from 1898 to 1913 head of the excavation in Ephesus , from 1904 head of the Athens branch . From 1909 to 1911 he was Professor of Classical Archeology in Innsbruck , then until 1934 in Graz. His estate is in the possession of the Graz University Library .
