Jürgen Günther (born February 24, 1938 in Halle ; † May 30, 2015 in Dresden ) was a German comic artist . His best-known series, Otto and Alwin , appeared in the GDR children's magazine FRÖSI from 1974 .

Life

Günther began his professional career in 1958 at the Dresden animation film studio . In 1960 he began commissioned work for FRÖSI , mostly comic versions of well-known literary material. He also worked for magazines such as the Free World and the Sorbian newspaper Płomjo .

In 1974 he created the green monkey Otto and the penguin Alwin for FRÖSI , which would develop into his greatest success and Günther's trademark. In 1979 Günther created 55 Otto and Alwin collection pictures for the OK Big Babaloo chewing gum .

After the reunification the production of the FRÖSI was stopped. Günther remained active and drew, among other things, for the children's page of the Sächsische Zeitung and the series "Ed & Eddy" for the Berliner Zeitung .

Since the revival of the FRÖSI he had also resumed work on "Otto and Alwin". On the occasion of his 70th birthday, the Dresden City Archives organized a personal exhibition in February 2008. In March 2008 and December 2010 he published the two-volume complete edition of the "Otto and Alwin" comics in the Holzhof Verlag Dresden.

Jürgen Günther lived with his wife Herta Günther in Dresden until his death .
