Alexander "Alex" Nedeljkovic (born January 7, 1996 in Parma , Ohio ) is an American ice hockey goalkeeper who has been under contract with the Carolina Hurricanes in the National Hockey League since March 2015 and also for their farm team , the Charlotte Checkers , in the American Hockey League is used.

Alex Nedeljkovic was born in Parma and played in his youth for the Cleveland Barons in nearby Cleveland and in the 2011/12 season for the Belle Tire Hockey Club from Detroit , Michigan . The goalkeeper began the 2012/13 season with the Michigan-based Metro Jets before moving to the Plymouth Whalers , who had selected him in 2012 in the Priority Selection of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) in 123rd position. The Whalers of Americans graduated in his first OHL season 26 games in which he the FW "Dinty" Moore Trophy , won the the Rookie -Torhüter with the least Gegentorschnitt pricing and in addition to the OHL First All-Rookie Team selected has been. In summer 2013 he represented his home country for the first time on an international level when he won the silver medal with the U18 at the Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament 2013 . In the following season Nedeljkovic rose to the goalkeeper of the Whalers and increased his catch rate to 92.5%. As a result, he was named OHL Goaltender of the Year and elected to the OHL First All-Star Team . The American also played nine games with the USA Hockey National Team Development Program , the central talent factory of the US hockey association USA Hockey . He then won the gold medal with the U18 team of Team USA at the U18 World Cup in 2014 , leading all the goalkeepers in the tournament with a goalscoring 1.84. After having played at the CHL Top Prospects Game during the season , Nedeljkovic was selected in the 2014 NHL Entry Draft in 37th position by the Carolina Hurricanes .

After the 2014/15 season, during which he represented the US U20 national team at the 2015 U20 World Cup and remained there without a mission, Nedeljkovic was elected to the OHL Third All-Star Team . Then the Carolina Hurricanes endowed him in March 2015, which started contract and then sent him to their ECHL - farm team , the Florida Everblades . The goalkeeper then made his professional debut there and made three appearances by the end of the season. During the preparation for the 2015/16 season, Nedeljkovic could not recommend himself for the time being, so the Hurricanes sent him to the OHL for another year, where he then ran for the Flint Firebirds , which had emerged from the Plymouth Whalers. After half a year in Flint, however, the Firebirds gave him and Josh Wesley to the Niagara IceDogs in December 2015 , who in return sent Brent Moran and five draft voting rights to Flint. After Nedeljkovic won the bronze medal with Team USA's U20s at the U20 World Cup in 2016 , he ended the season in Niagara by reaching the playoff finals for the J. Ross Robertson Cup , where the IceDogs were defeated by the London Knights . Furthermore, the goalkeeper was reappointed to the OHL Third All-Star Team .

Charlotte Checkers

At the beginning of the 2016/17 season, Nedeljkovic switched to the organization of the Carolina Hurricanes and from then on is mainly used for the Charlotte Checkers in the American Hockey League (AHL). In December 2016, he was briefly sent back to the Florida Everblades for three missions, becoming the twelfth goalkeeper in league history to score a goal in the ECHL. Only a few weeks later, the American was called into the Hurricanes squad for the first time, where he took the place as a replacement behind Cam Ward , replacing the injured Eddie Läck . He made his debut in the National Hockey League (NHL) on January 17, 2017 , when he replaced Cam Ward in the game against the Columbus Blue Jackets and finished the game without conceding a goal. He then returned to Charlotte and scored a goal there in March 2018, in the Checkers' 7-3 victory over the Hartford Wolf Pack .

At the end of the season 2018/19 Nedeljkovic led the entire AHL with 34 wins and a 2.26 Gegentorschnitt to, so he with the Aldege "Baz" Bastien Memorial Award named best goalkeeper in the league and the AHL First All-Star Team selected has been. In the playoffs he won the Calder Cup with the Checkers .
