Curtis Sanford (born October 5, 1979 in Owen Sound , Ontario ) is a former Canadian ice hockey goalkeeper who was most recently under contract with Lokomotive Yaroslavl from the Continental Hockey League . He previously spent much of his career in the National Hockey League , where he played for the St. Louis Blues , Vancouver Canucks and Columbus Blue Jackets, among others .
Career
The 1.78 m tall goalie began his professional career with the Owen Sound Platers in the Canadian Junior League OHL and was then not drafted by any NHL team , so he was initially hired by the Missouri River Otters in the United Hockey League .
In October 2000, the Canadian was finally hired as a free agent by the St. Louis Blues , who initially used him in various farm teams in the minor leagues American Hockey League and East Coast Hockey League . His first appearances in the National Hockey League he completed in the 2002/03 season . Despite a good Gegentorschnitts of 1.96 per game Sandford did not make it, permanently in the squad of the franchises from Missouri to enforce. First he returned to the Worcester IceCats in the AHL for two years, only to get a new chance with the Blues in 2005 . This time he was able to use it better, but injuries cost him his regular place between the posts in the following period.
On July 3, 2007, Sanford signed a one-year contract with league rivals Vancouver Canucks , from which he was used until the summer of 2009 as a substitute for Roberto Luongo . On July 20, 2009, the Canadian signed a one-year contract with the Montréal Canadiens , valid for the NHL and AHL. In July 2010, his contract was extended for another season. Also in the 2010/11 season , Sanford played in the farm team with the Hamilton Bulldogs and, thanks to a record of five shutouts and a catch quota of around 93 percent, played a decisive role in the successful performance of the Bulldogs, which made it into the playoffs as the best team in the North Division managed. He was then elected to the League's Second All-Star Team .
On July 1, 2011, Sanford signed a two-way contract for one year with the Columbus Blue Jackets , for which he completed a total of 36 games in the NHL. In April 2012, Sanford moved to Europe for the first time when he signed a contract with Lokomotive Yaroslavl from the Continental Hockey League .
After three years at Lokomotive, he ended his career in March 2015.
