Cédrick Desjardins (born September 30, 1985 in Edmundston , New Brunswick ) is a Canadian ice hockey goalkeeper .

Career

Cédrick Desjardins began his career as a hockey player in the Canadian Junior League Québec Major Junior Hockey League , in which he was active from 2002 to 2005 for L'Océanic de Rimouski . With the team he won the Coupe du Président , the QMJHL championship in the 2004/05 season . The goalkeeper then moved within the QMJHL to the Remparts de Québec , who lost to the Moncton Wildcats in the 2006 final for the Coupe du Président . However, since they were also hosts of the Memorial Cup , the final tournament for the championship title of the Canadian Hockey League , the Remparts de Québec were allowed to move up as Coupe du Président finalists and were finally able to win the Memorial Cup final for the previous defeat at the Moncton Wildcats retaliate. The Canadian himself played a major role in this success and was named to the tournament's all-star team. He also received the Hap Emms Memorial Trophy as the best goalkeeper of the tournament.

In the summer of 2006 Desjardins received a contract with the Hamilton Bulldogs from the American Hockey League , but was mainly used in the first two years for their farm team from the ECHL , the Cincinnati Cyclones . With the Cyclones he won the Kelly Cup in the 2007/08 season and showed particularly good performances in his 16 appearances in the playoffs, for which he was named Kelly Cup Playoffs Most Valuable Player . In the following years, the goalie from New Brunswick was able to prevail with the Hamilton Bulldogs in the AHL, for which he played exclusively in the AHL from 2008 to 2010. In the 2009/10 season , he and Curtis Sanford were the most successful goalkeeping duo, for which they were rewarded with the Harry "Hap" Holmes Memorial Award . Desjardins himself contributed to this award with a goal against goal of just 2.00 in the 47 regular season games in which he played for Hamilton.

In August 2010 Desjardins was given to the Tampa Bay Lightning by the Canadiens de Montréal , who owned the rights to the player . After he initially ran up for their AHL farm team Norfolk Admirals , he made his debut for the Tampa Bay Lightning in the National Hockey League on December 30, 2010 in a win against Montréal . On July 8, 2011 Desjardins signed a one-year contract with the Colorado Avalanche and completed a total of 36 games for the Avalanche farm team, the Lake Erie Monsters , in the AHL in the following season 2011/12 . In July 2012, he returned to his old team in Hamilton after he signed a two-way contract for a year with the Montreal Canadiens , which, however, found no use in their NHL squad for the right catcher.

In mid-February 2013 Desjardins was transferred again to the Tampa Bay Lightning in exchange for Dustin Tokarski , for which he only played four games in the following year and a half and otherwise did not get beyond stakes in the farm team Syracuse Crunch in the AHL. In the summer of 2014, the Canadian was hired by the New York Rangers , who also handed him over directly to their Hartford Wolf Pack farm team . In the subsequent 2014/15 season , however, he only played 15 games in the AHL before he was out for the rest of the remaining season due to a torn cruciate ligament . After the end of the season Desjardins signed a contract with the Manchester Monarchs , but did not get more than five appearances for the Monarchs and one game for the Indy Fuel in the 2015/16 season . In 2016 he moved to the Marquis de Jonquière in the Ligue Nord-Américaine de Hockey .
