Joseph Blandisi (born July 18, 1994 in Markham , Ontario ) is a Canadian ice hockey player who has been under contract with the Canadiens de Montréal from the National Hockey League since February 2020 and also for their farm team , the Rocket de Laval , in American Hockey League plays on the position of the center .

Career

Blandisi initially spent his junior years with youth teams in Toronto and Vaughan . After being selected in the OHL Priority Selection , he moved to the Ontario Hockey League for the Owen Sound Attack junior team for the 2011/12 season . The striker played there until January 2013, before he was handed over to league rivals Ottawa 67’s together with Jacob Middleton in exchange for Cody Ceci and one other player and a draft option . From there he moved again within the league to the Barrie Colts in January 2014 . Due to injuries, however, he only played 47 games. In the 2012 NHL Entry Draft he was selected in the sixth round in 162nd position by the Colorado Avalanche from the National Hockey League , which had not signed him in the following two years. The attacker stood for election again in the 2014 NHL Entry Draft . However, there was no team to choose Blandisi.

Thus, the center forward went into his last junior year with the Colts with no prospect of a professional contract in the NHL. Although he had taken part in the Buffalo Sabers training camp in September 2014 in preparation for the season, he was sent back to Barrie without a contract offer. There he was appointed team captain for the 2014/15 season and ended the season with 112 points as the fourth best scorer in the entire league. With his striker colleagues Kevin Labanc and Andrew Mangiapane , he formed one of the league's most dangerous attack lines, with a total of 323 points. He himself was the best scorer in the league with 52 goals, was awarded the Leo Lalonde Memorial Trophy as the best Overage player and was appointed to the Third All-Star Team.

His performance explosion had already brought Blandisi a contract with the New Jersey Devils from the NHL in January 2015 , for whose farm team , the Albany Devils from the American Hockey League , he went on the ice at the beginning of the 2015/16 game year . There he was so convincing in the first phase of the season that he was appointed to the New Jersey NHL squad for the first time in December 2015. There he finally prevailed and played 41 NHL games in his first year as a professional.

In November, the Devils, including Adam Henrique and a third-round vote for the NHL Entry Draft 2018 , gave him to the Anaheim Ducks and received Sami Vatanen in return . In addition, an additional third-round voting right changes to New Jersey, provided Henrique signs a new contract in Anaheim. This condition was met in July of the same year.

At the Ducks, Blandisi was mainly used in the AHL with the San Diego Gulls until he was transferred to the Pittsburgh Penguins in January 2019 in exchange for Derek Grant . He spent about a year there before he and Jacob Lucchini were handed over to the Canadiens de Montréal in February 2020 and Pittsburgh received Riley Barber and Philip Varone in return .
