Dan LaCosta (born March 28, 1986 in Labrador City , Newfoundland and Labrador ) is a Canadian ice hockey goalkeeper who was under contract with EC Red Bull Salzburg in the Austrian ice hockey league until September 2010 and currently has no club.

Career

LaCosta began his career in the Ontario Hockey League , where he played a total of four seasons for Owen Sound Attack and later for the Barrie Colts and showed good performances. After he had already been drafted in 2003 , he showed great potential at the end of his junior career in the 2005/06 season with an average goal against 2.55. This was followed by a move to the ECHL and then to the American Hockey League , where he moved between the farm teams of the Columbus Blue Jackets .

In the 2007/08 season he first stepped NHL ice and guarded the goal of the Blue Jackets for thirteen minutes, where he received no goal and parried a total of five shots. In the following year he brought it again to three missions and played as the first goalkeeper for the Syracuse Crunch in the AHL. In the 2009/10 season , however, LaCosta failed to follow up on his previous performances and displace Kevin Lalande as number one in the goal of the Syracuse Crunch.

In the summer of 2010 it became known that he had accepted an engagement in Europe for the first time: the Austrian first division club EC Red Bull Salzburg signed the Canadian on a trial basis for the new season, where he was to succeed David LeNeveu . His contract was not renewed after the try-out in Salzburg.
