Kurtis MacDermid (born March 25, 1994 in Sauble Beach , Ontario ) is a Canadian ice hockey player who has been under contract with the Los Angeles Kings in the National Hockey League since September 2012 and plays there on the position of defender .

Career

Kurtis MacDermid played in his youth for the Gray-Bruce Highlanders , among others , before he was selected in 2010 in the Priority Selection of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) in 139th position by the Owen Sound Attack . For the time being, however, the defender ran for the Owen Sound Grays in the Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League , which was located under the OHL , before finally establishing himself in the Owen Sound Attack squad for the 2012/13 season. In addition, he signed an entry contract with the Los Angeles Kings from the National Hockey League (NHL) in September 2017, without having previously been considered in an NHL Entry Draft . After one and a half years in Owen Sound, the Attack handed him over to the Erie Otters within the OHL in January 2014 and received several draft voting rights in return. With the Otters, the Canadian also appeared primarily as a defensively oriented defender, so he ended the 2013/14 season with a total of +22 plus / minus statistics and as the player with the most penalty minutes in the entire league (165).

After the 2014/15 season, MacDermid retired from the OHL due to age and changed to the organization of the Los Angeles Kings, who initially used him in their farm team , the Ontario Reign , in the American Hockey League (AHL). As a rookie , he had 16 points scorer and a plus / minus rating of +24 in his first professional season , with which he led his team. After he had confirmed these achievements in the following season, his contract in Los Angeles was extended by one year in July 2017. The defender then earned himself a place in the Kings line-up as part of the preparation for the 2017/18 season and has therefore been regularly used in the NHL since October 2017.
