Lane Phillip MacDermid (born August 25, 1989 in Hartford , Connecticut ) is a former American - Canadian ice hockey player who played for the Boston Bruins , Dallas Stars and Calgary Flames in the National Hockey League between 2006 and 2014 played in the position of the left winger .
Career
MacDermid was born in Hartford , Connecticut, USA , while his father Paul MacDermid was under contract with the Hartford Whalers of the National Hockey League , but grew up in Sauble Beach in the Canadian province of Ontario . From the beginning of the 2006/07 season to December 2008, the striker was active for the Owen Sound Attack in the Ontario Hockey League and moved to league rivals Windsor Spitfires during the 2008/09 season . With the team for which his father had already played, he won the OHL championship at the end of the season and was then able to win the prestigious Memorial Cup .
After MacDermid, who represented the player type of a power forward and enforcer , was selected in the fourth round of the 2009 NHL Entry Draft in 112th place by the Boston Bruins , they signed him in October 2009. They used the striker in the next four years mainly in their farm team , the Providence Bruins , in the American Hockey League . Only in the course of the 2011/12 season did the Canadian make his NHL debut, but could not assert himself permanently at this level. In April 2013, MacDermid was transferred with Cody Payne and a first-round right to vote in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft to league rivals Dallas Stars , who in return gave up Jaromír Jagr to Boston.
In the Texans, MacDermid was part of the regular squad for the remainder of the 2012/13 season and at the start of the 2013/14 season . Since he only came to six missions in the first two months of the new game year, the Stars gave him to the Calgary Flames in November 2013 in exchange for a six- round vote in the 2014 NHL Entry Draft . They immediately sent him to their AHL farm team, the Abbotsford Heat . During the season, the left winger also made his debut for Calgary.
In February 2014, MacDermid was finally suspended from the Abbotsford Heat after failing to return to the team following the break in the AHL All-Star Classic . Just a week later, MacDermid announced that it would be retiring from active ice hockey. As a reason, the then only 24-year-old cited that he had lost his passion for the sport.
