Matthew "Matt" Alan Roy (* 1. March 1995 in Canton , Michigan ) is an American ice hockey player , who has been in March 2017 with the Los Angeles Kings in the National Hockey League is under contract and for those on the position of the defender plays .
Career
Matt Roy went through the youth organization Victory Honda from Plymouth in his home state Michigan. From there he moved in the 2012/13 season to the Indiana Ice in the United States Hockey League (USHL), the highest-ranking junior league in the country. With these, the defender won the USHL playoffs for the Clark Cup at the end of the following season 2013/14 . He then returned to Michigan, where he enrolled at Michigan Technological University and henceforth with their ice hockey team, the Huskies , participated in the game operations of the Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA), a league of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). As a freshman , he achieved a plus / minus statistic of +22, third place of all rookies in the NCAA, so that he was considered in the NHL Entry Draft 2015 in 194th position by the Los Angeles Kings . The American then returned to the Huskies for two more years, steadily increasing his offensive statistics and being elected once to the WCHA's First and Second All-Star Team . He also won the WCHA championship with Michigan Tech at the end of the 2016/17 season.
In March 2017 Roy signed an entry-level contract with the Kings and made his professional debut with their farm team , the Ontario Reign from the American Hockey League (AHL) towards the end of the 2016/17 season . The defender also spent the entire 2017/18 season there before making his debut for Los Angeles in the National Hockey League (NHL) in February 2019 . With the start of the 2019/20 season, he finally established himself in the NHL lineup of the Kings.
