Austin Wagner (born June 23, 1997 in Calgary , Alberta ) is a Canadian ice hockey player . He has been under contract with the Los Angeles Kings in the National Hockey League (NHL) since March 2017 .

Career

After he was used in his youth with the Calgary Northstars in the Alberta Midget Hockey League , Wagner was selected in the fifth round of the Bantam Draft of the Western Hockey League (WHL) by the Regina Pats . For the 2013/14 season , Wagner was accepted into the final Pats team at the age of 16 and played 42 games. His breakthrough came in the winger in the 2014/15 season in which he completed 61 games and 39 points scorer scored. In the following two seasons Wagner was able to outbid this with 62 and 66 scorer points for the Pats.

In the NHL Entry Draft 2015 Austin Wagner was selected in the fourth round as the 99th player by the Los Angeles Kings and on March 6, 2017 he signed a three-year entry contract there . There he was first used for the Kings farm team , the Ontario Reign , in the American Hockey League (AHL). Wagner missed the start of the 2017/18 season with shoulder surgery and made his debut for the Ontario Reign on December 3, 2017 in a game against the Tucson Roadrunners . He scored his first goal in the AHL six days later.

In 2018 Austin Wagner was called to the Los Angeles Kings squad for the 2018/19 NHL season , and made his NHL debut on October 5, 2018 in the loss to the San Jose Sharks . After playing seven games in the NHL, Wagner was initially called back to the Ontario Reign. After six games, he returned to the Los Angeles Kings, where he scored his first goal in the National Hockey League on November 21, 2018 in the game against the Colorado Avalanche . On December 7, 2018, Wagner was sent back to the Ontario Reign to gain more game practice.

International

In 2017, Wagner was accepted into a training camp of the Canadian U20 national ice hockey team for the 2017 U20 Ice Hockey World Championship , but ultimately not appointed to the squad.
