Jeff Heerema (born January 17, 1980 in Thunder Bay , Ontario ) is a Canadian ice hockey player who has played for the Nottingham Panthers in the Elite Ice Hockey League since 2010 . He is the cousin of NHL players Eric , Marc , Jordan and Jared Staal .
Career
Heerema began a career in 1997 in the Canadian Junior League OHL with the Sarnia Sting . Due to good performance, the winger was selected eleventh place by the Carolina Hurricanes during the 1998 NHL Entry Draft in the first round . Three years later, the Canadian moved to Carolina, where he was initially mainly used in the farm team , the Lowell Lock Monsters . In the 2002/03 season , the right-shooter finally came on ten missions in the National Hockey League , in which he was able to score three goals.
A year later, Heerema joined the Columbus Blue Jackets , for which he completed 22 games and scored three points. In the following years, the attacker changed clubs several times, stations included the Binghamton Senators , the farm team of the Ottawa Senators . However, since he was still rarely used in the NHL, Heerema decided in 2007 to move to Europe and signed a contract with the Frankfurt Lions from the German Ice Hockey League . In his first season for Hessen, the striker scored 41 points in 50 games, making him one of the players with the highest points in the team.
