Jared Staal (born August 21, 1990 in Thunder Bay , Ontario ) is a former Canadian ice hockey striker and current ice hockey coach, who was last under contract as a player with the Edinburgh Capitals from the Elite Ice Hockey League until 2017 .

Career

Jared Staal played from 2006 in the Canadian Junior League Ontario Hockey League with the Sudbury Wolves . In his first season he scored just two goals and an assist, as well as a playoff goal. With the Wolves he failed in the final of the OHL playoffs at the Plymouth Whalers and thus narrowly missed the entry into the Memorial Cup finals. In his second year he was able to improve significantly, scored 21 goals and prepared 28 more. However, the team could not build on the performance of the previous year and missed the playoffs.

After the end of the season, Jared Staal was selected by the Phoenix Coyotes in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft in the second round at position 49. This makes him the only one of the Staal brothers who was not drafted in the first round and whose team plays in the Western Conference.

In 2008/09 he continued to play for the Sudbury Wolves, who were able to improve again and Staal built on the performance of the previous season. After the Wolves failed in the first round, the San Antonio Rampage from the American Hockey League took him into their roster, which appeared as the farm team of the Phoenix Coyotes. In May 2010, the Phoenix Coyotes transferred him to the Carolina Hurricanes in exchange for a five-round suffrage in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft . A day later he signed a three-year entry - level contract with the Canes .

The 2010/11 season he began with their farm team Charlotte Checkers in the AHL, for which he completed twelve games and scored one goal. He was then sent to the Florida Everblades in the ECHL .

After five years in the organization of the Hurricanes, Staal moved to the South Carolina Stingrays in October 2015 after receiving no new contract from either the Checkers or the Everblades. The attacker stayed there for a season before he decided to move to Europe in July 2016 and signed a one-year contract with the Edinburgh Capitals from the British Elite Ice Hockey League .

After his career as a player, Staal moved behind the gang. During the 2018/19 season, he worked as an assistant coach in the youth division (U15 / U18) in Edmonton at OHA Edmonton . For the 2019/20 season, he was hired by the Orlando Solar Bears as an assistant coach in the ECHL .
